Download PDF: How to organise a study day in your area with the Breech Birth Network
This is a study day with world-renowned midwife and breech birth expert Mary Cronk. She is stupported by her independent midwifery colleagues Joy Horner, RM, and myself.
Content includes:
- Overview of normal breech birth in the all fours position
- Slides of actual births
- Hands-on practice with a doll and pelvis to understand the mechanisms of breech labour
- Some breech variations, such as footling and knee presentations (including slides)
- Guidelines on when and how to help an otherwise "hands-off" birth
- Research and professional responsibilities
Feedback from the Study Day:
"Mary Cronk is an inspiration!" - Community Midwife
"Delivery on all fours! I wonder why I had never thought of it before - will rethink my practice, finding a balanced view" - Obstetrician
"Mary's experience allows her to be extremely influencial, but she recognises her limitations & always practices safely, requesting medical assistance when necessary" - Midwife
"This day gave me a sense of confidence in recognising when things go well" - Midwife
"I now feel I have the knowledge and increased confidence to challenge guidelines / practice" - Midwife Co-ordinator
Costs & Requirements
The study day costs £1000 in fees, plus travel expenses. Breech birth study days tend to be very well-attended (usually oversubscribed if well advertised), so this fee should be easily recouped by charging a small fee to those attending, particularly if the venue can hold 50 or more people. A hospital-based location tends to increase the attendance of hospital-based professionals, especially obstetricians. We require audiovisual equipment such as a projector, which either is or can be connected to a computer, from which we can play our Powerpoints. If the venue holds over 30 people, we will require a microphone. It is useful if each attendee can bring a doll and pelvis, or if these can be provided.
